Kingsport
Located in the beautiful Holston River
valley, Kingsport Tennessee offers an
abundance of outdoor beauty and many
exciting places to visit. Nestled just a few
minutes from the Virginia border, Kingsport
is surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains
and has a long history, as early explorers
such as Daniel Boone forged trails through

attractions and scenic mountain beauty that

Bays Mountain Park and Planetarium is a
3,000 acre nature preserve located in
Kingsport TN. This area offers 22 miles of
maintained hiking trails and includes a 44
acre lake. Open year-round, Bays Mountain
Park and Planetarium is a great place to
escape and learn about nature. In addition
to the protected wilderness, the park is
also home to a 40 foot domed planetarium
which showcases several different shows
daily. The nature center features a large
freshwater aquarium, as well as animal
exhibits of gray wolves, bobcats, deer and
otters. The newest animal habitat is the
raptor exhibit which features a screech owl,
vulture, several red-tail hawks, and a
kestrel.
Hikers enjoy hiking the Daniel Boone
Wilderness Trail, one of the nation’s most
historic trails, which begins in Kingsport
TN and eventually winds all the way
to Kentucky. Frontiersmen and early settlers
such as Daniel Boone commonly used this
route as it was a major link to the other
trails in the southeast. Also, families love
spending the day at Warrior’s Path State
Park, a unique place with an 18 hole disc
golf course, swimming pool and plenty of
scenic views as it is situated along the
banks of Fort Patrick Henry Lake.
