Elizabethton
The historic town of Elizabethton
Tennessee and the Sycamore Shoals settlement
is one of East Tennessee's most charming

in 18th century history as it was the home
of the first permanent settlement, outside
the original 13 colonies, known as the
Watauga Association. This majority rule
system of democracy was formed in 1772 and
is recognized as the first real form of
American Democratic government. Today, you

beautiful downtown region and its
history, and note its delightful, southern
hospitality. Filled with excellent places to

historic attractions. The Doe
River Covered Bridge, originally built in 1882
and the oldest covered bridge still in use in
the state. The Carter Mansion, built between
the years of 1775 and 1781, is known for
being the oldest frame home in not just East
Tennessee, but the entire state. Finally,
the Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area,
is the home of Fort Watauga and the
place celebrated as the first permanent
settlement aside from the 13 original colonies. In
addition to all of these historic locations,
Elizabethton TN is brimming with scenic
mountain vistas and views. Carter County is
also home to the
Roan
Mountain Rhododendron Gardens. This 600 acre
garden is famous for being the largest
garden of its type in the entire world, and
draws many thousands each year to witness
it's beauty.

Saturday night from Apr-Oct, join us in
Downtown Elizabethton for the Cruise-In.
Cars start arriving at 5:00 pm and
festivities last until 9:00pm. Enjoy
shopping and eating downtown with the family

the tunes of the oldies and goodies play for
